Caledon's most significant claim to fame is, its wild flowers. There is no other part of the world which can boast as many various species. But since the conception of The Caledon Wildflower Show, the gardens and reserve concern was shown by the likes of H.R.H Princess Alice and 50 years later by Mr. HJ van Eck about the conservation of this very unique area in the Klein Swartberg. A concern that is still imminent. In the words of Mr van Eck: "we must not in our planning ensure that the vestiges of our flora and fauna (and cultural heritage) are not trampled into the history books in the name of progress".
